Do you find yourself feeling drawn to someone you barely know?

Don’t think it’s an accident.

There are numerous spiritual reasons we’re drawn to people, including these eight.

1) You have an unspoken connection

Sometimes we have inexplicable, unspoken connections with people, which we can’t quite understand. On the other hand, sometimes it’s a case that something about someone just doesn’t gel with us.

I’ve experienced both of these scenarios and I’m sure you have too!

I’m going to tell you a personal story about being drawn to someone I barely knew.

My boyfriend and I were magnetized to one another from the second we met. We met on the first day of university… I walked into the room and we clocked each other.

He was sitting down on the other side of the room, talking to a group of people. But, the next thing I knew, he was standing right next to me and telling me about where he lives and what he does for work.

I remember experiencing an overwhelming surge of energy, where I became aware of an intensity between us. I almost found it too intense looking into his eyes, and I remember awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact by looking around the room.

At that moment, I thought there was something strange going on between me and this person. And I even thought: I’m either going to really clash or get along with this person.

Until then, I’d never, ever had anything like that with another person. I couldn’t put my finger on what was happening, but I knew there was an inexplicable intensity.

And I felt compelled to explore it.

Fast-forward to our first date some weeks later, and he was telling me about a trip he’d been on to Africa and how I would like it there. As I was listening, I heard a voice from within say ‘but I want to go with you’… I couldn’t put my finger where this voice came from. It was as though it was deep in my soul, because of our unspoken connection.

Now, this reminds me of a passage in Glennon Doyle’s book Untamed, where she talks about the moment her now-wife walked into the room.

As she came through the doors, Glennon heard a voice from within that said: ‘there she is’.

Like me, she was surprised to hear it and felt overwhelmed. At the time, she was married to a man… so she didn’t fully understand it. But an unspoken connection magnetized them together, and now they’ve been together for years as a total power couple!

I’m sure this has happened to you before.

It’s happened to me on numerous occasions… in a good and bad way. It’s made me feel drawn to someone because they’ve felt familiar but it’s also made me think I want to avoid others, in case they’re similar to that person I don’t like.

I’ve also had people tell me that I remind them of their friends or family. For example, a new friend that I’ve bonded with quickly tells me regularly that I remind her of her aunt, who she loves.

How is this possible?

We might be reminded of people through another person’s subtle facial movements – like how they smile or raise an eyebrow – or how they articulate their words and cough. Really, it could be any of these gestures.

When it comes to feeling drawn to someone, I’ve felt this connection because I’ve modeled on the person they’ve reminded me of. I’ve felt like I know them already, when, in reality, I know nothing about them.

I might not even know their name!

In an article for Nomadrs, Nevena Glogovac explains:

“On a subconscious level, you’re feeling drawn to this person that’s reminiscent of a loved one. There’s something familiar and comfortable about them, and they resonate with your soul on some level. In some cases, you’ll feel like the two of you were meant to meet. Sometimes you might even feel protective and possessive of them, mostly because they remind you of a loved one who meant a lot to you. The two of you will have a similar vibe, and for some reason or another, it’s as if the universe is feeling it and bringing you together for a purpose.”

Investigating your hunch will help you get clear on why you feel so drawn to this person.

Truth is, everyone is different… despite having a similar look or sounding similar to someone you know. They might be worlds apart from that person you’re thinking of!

If you find yourself thinking you’re drawn to someone because they remind you of someone else, make a list of how these two people actually show up in the world to see just how similar they are.

Once you boil it down, you might realize these two people aren’t similar at all.

Remembering that everyone is unique in their own ways – even if they have similarities with another person – will help you avoid falling into the trap of feeling like you already know someone when you don’t.

3) You have a soul contract

If you’re reading this article, I’m going to assume that you’re open to hearing about soul contracts.

First things first, what is a soul contract?

In a podcast episode by Owl Spiritual Podcast, they explain:

“Soul Contracts are agreements that you enter into pre-birth. Before this contract is created, your Spirit Guides empower you to decide which life lesson scenarios are going to enable your soul to evolve. These choices then formulate the basis of your soul contract. Your soul contract doesn’t only involve the relationships in your life. It also includes your life experiences, events and circumstances. But whatever your soul contract entails, remember you have chosen each and every experience, to help you to learn and grow.”

So, it could be that you’re drawn to someone because you two agreed to meet up in this lifetime to further your healing and growth.

If you’re wondering whether you actually have a soul agreement with someone, make a list of the ways in which they’re helping you grow so you can see whether it’s likely they are.

Have they helped you grow:

Spiritually Emotionally Physically Professionally Artistically

Look closely at the ways in which they’ve enhanced your life to see if you two might be in each other’s lives because you’re supposed to transcend and up-level together.

The signs above will give you a good idea of whether you’re in a soul contract with someone.

Even so, it can be very worthwhile to speak to a gifted person and get guidance from them. They can answer all sorts of relationship questions and take away your doubts and worries.

It doesn’t have to be in the remit of romance either: soul contracts don’t only have to be romantic.

You might have a soul contact with a friend in your life, which would explain why you’re so drawn to them.

I recently spoke to someone from Psychic Source after having issues with a friend. My best friend asked from space for me after I made a comment about her boyfriend to someone else. Essentially, I said that he wasn’t good enough for her and it got back to her.

I felt really hurt that she’d tossed the friendship aside and that she didn’t want anything to do with me. But, simultaneously, I felt like I really wanted this friendship back in my life: I felt like I was missing something as, well, I was.

However, the friendship suddenly felt toxic and I was left wondering whether we’re supposed to be in each other’s lives anymore. After being lost in my thoughts for so long, Psychic Source gave me a unique insight into whether this friendship is meant to last.

I was actually blown away by how kind, compassionate and knowledgeable they were.

4) You have a third eye connection

Now, this is similar to the soul contact… but it’s not as powerful.

Recently, I made a new friend who I believe I have this sort of connection with.

In summary, you two are connected because you’re at the same place spiritually.

Writing for Nomadrs, Nevena Glogovac adds:

“This type of connection is a sign that you are both on the same spiritual wavelength, and that you can see and feel each other’s energy. It’s an intense feeling, like there’s something between the two of you that can’t be stopped and can’t be ignored.”

He and I struck up an instant friendship and have spent loads of time together one-on-one, as we have so much to talk about endlessly and a deep connection that’s hard to verbalize.

We have the same worldview when it comes to topics like spirituality and how interconnected the world is, and we can literally talk about these topics for days without getting bored.

We made friends as part of a wider group, but we quickly gravitated to spending more time together one-on-one. Every time we went to meet up as a group, others would cancel, and he and I would just be left to hang out.

It was no accident!

Now, from the outside, I know people can sense our connection.

It’s just like Glogovac says:

“Both of you will usually know what heavy feelings are going on, and it may seem like magic to the outside observer because they can sense how connected you both are.

“These people are hard to forget because they make an impression on you. You may find that they know things about you that nobody else knows.”

We actually had a conversation recently where he said I know more about him than long-time friends of his that he grew up with! In a matter of months, we know each other so deeply.

What’s more, I know this friend will be in my life forever because of our spiritual connection.

His friendship feels so fulfilling because of the depths we go to. It’s so much more fulfilling that surface-level friendships where we end up gossiping and being in a low vibrational state.

What does this mean to you?

If you feel repeatedly drawn to someone, and get super excited about spending time with them to talk about spiritual matters and why we’re here on the planet, it might be that you two have a third eye connection.

5) You two have a nurturing connection

Do you naturally feel ‘at home’ with this person?

If you feel a great sense of ease with someone and like you’ve known them for a lifetime, it could be that you two have a nurturing connection.

I have this with an older friend of mine, who makes me feel warm and loved. Even though we’re super different today and have no crossover socially or with our interests, I feel a great sense of peace when I connect with her.

It’s totally unexplained why we have this. We just work as people for an inexplicable reason.

She’s always willing to listen to me and she keeps me feeling rooted.

Glogovac explains more on the nurturing connection. They say:

“You may even find that your heart soars when they are near, and a sense of safety and peace begins to wash over you. These people are usually good listeners, and they know when to give advice and when to lend a helping hand. They make you feel cherished and taken care of, and for some reason, you want to stay near them.”

As if that’s not enough, they often appear in your life when you most need their comfort and support. You see, they’ll always be there for you.

Basically, they’re the best kind of people and genuine friends!

Just by knowing they exist, even if you don’t see them very often, you’ll feel less alone in the world and peace in knowing they’ll have you back if you need them.

Be sure to express gratitude for these people!

6) They are a soul-mentor

Now, this one is pretty cool.

It might be that you feel drawn to a particular person because they’re actually here to mentor you, with the goal of helping you connect with your higher self.

They’re in your life to help you ascend spiritually and reach your potential.

Again, I have someone in my life like this.

I just know my best friend is one of my soul-mentors.

How do I know it?

This friend continuously helps me grow just by her very being.

She shows me what it looks like to be a woman that’s fully in her power, and able to encourage and lift up other women from an authentic place. She’s someone who owns her shadows and her beauty and isn’t afraid to be seen.

She works as a healing coach, so going into those painful parts and ‘doing the work’ is part of her day-to-day. Simply put: she’s a complete inspiration to me, who shows me how it’s possible to move from pain to power.

Learning about this from her, and having actually had her coaching professionally, I know she’s in my life to mentor me in some capacity.

Does this sound like someone you know? It could be that you’re drawn to them because they’re here to mention you.

Glogovac explains more about this sort of person.

“You may find that this person has wisdom and knowledge that you need to learn in order to understand some things about yourself and your path. This person won’t necessarily give you the answers, but they will help guide you towards finding them out on your own. They will help you discover yourself, and their presence will help you keep your feet on the ground as well.”

Now, when it comes to really unleashing your power, it’s an inside job.

So what can you do to tap into yours?

It’s a case of recognizing that the answers aren’t out there. I don’t know about you, but looking externally for the answers has never worked for me.

Simply put: until you look within and unleash your personal power, you’ll never find the satisfaction and fulfillment you’re searching for.

In the past, I’ve placed a lot of emphasis on drawing on others’ wisdom and guidance to help me. At times, I’ve thought certain people in my life are saviors, and that they know more about me and what I should do.

Whether it’s friends or celebrities, I’ve been guilty of putting other people on pedestals and thinking they must know what’s best from me.

But I’ve come to learn that it’s not true.

I learned this from the shaman Rudá Iandê. His life mission is to help people restore balance to their lives and unlock their creativity and potential. He has an incredible approach that combines ancient shamanic techniques with a modern-day twist.

In his excellent free video, Rudá explains effective methods to help you reclaim your true essence and to come back to your rightful state of being in your power.

So, if you want to build a better relationship with yourself, unlock your endless potential, and put passion at the heart of everything you do, start now by checking out his genuine advice.

7) You two have a weaving connection

There’s a saying that some people come into our lives for a reason, some are around for a season and others are here to stay for our lifetimes.

In my experience, I instinctively know the roles different people are here to play in my life.

You might feel the same. If you do, you’ve got a strong connection with your spiritual and emotional self.

I’ll tell you a bit about my experiences with people coming in and out of my life versus people sticking around.

Over the past few years, I’ve made loads of friends in professional contexts and in different areas I’ve lived in. From the beginning of these relationships, I’ve always known they’re there just to serve a purpose during a specific window of time.

And that these connections will likely fall apart when change happens.

I accept that certain people are just in my life for a season – and that will be all.

Their purpose has usually been the basic need for human interaction, but also laughter, growth and self-reflection.

Can you think of people who have fulfilled this role in your life?

I don’t know about you, but I’m confident in my ability to tell the difference between someone who I know I’m going to have a long-term friendship with, and someone else that I’ll just stay acquaintances with.

I also know when I’m almost definitely never going to speak to someone ever again… and I look forward to it if it’s someone I just don’t vibe with at all.

I’m sure this resonates with you too.

Now, if there’s someone who keeps weaving in and out of your life – like an old school friend or someone you met at a party years ago – who is always getting back in touch, it could be that you two have a weaving connection.

What makes this connection special? Well, not for a minute do you think that you won’t see that person again. Instead, you know you two will get together sometime in the near future to catch up… and it will probably feel like you last saw each other the day before.

You two weave in and out of each other’s lives; it’s like a beautiful, effortless dance. Every step is perfect and on the beat.

Sometimes, you two might not talk for months and months… even years! Then out of nowhere, you two make contact again and it couldn’t be more organic. You leave the situation feeling energized, refreshed, and amazed at the magic of life for how it puts such special people in your path.

You see, even though you both might have undergone big life changes and be very different to the people you were when you first met, you’re still able to show up and support one another from a loving and compassionate place.

You still want to be in each other’s lives, as much as you did when you first met.

Glogovac says that you’ll know you have a weaving connection with someone if you feel like there’s a sort of inevitability that you two will meet again.

Not only that, they add:

“You may feel as though the past, present, and future are all connected in some way.

Your emotions will be on high speed as you begin to get closer to each other, and the more you interact with them, the more your connection will grow. There’s also a feeling of comfort in knowing that they have already been part of your life.”

Much like the nurturing connection, this type of connection with someone feels mysterious. But that’s part of its beauty.

Glogovac adds: “often comes down to accepting the mystery of it all, rather than questioning it.”

8) You’re going through the same thing emotionally

You might feel incredibly drawn to someone because you two are going through the same thing in life. You feel like this person’s experiences are mirroring yours: like you two could be the same person.

It will make you feel drawn to them as you see so much of you reflected back.

The emotional connection could be formed through sharing something painful like the loss of a loved one or a breakup, or it could be that you are both ascending the career ladder together and are full of excitement and joy.

You might have met at a support group or in the workplace, for example.

Simply put: you’re bonded over a shared experience.

As if that’s not enough, you two are in each other’s lives to help one another heal and grow. They’re mirroring you back at you so you can ascend, and you’re doing the same for them!

They’re a combination of the above type of relationships and a beautiful reminder of the power of friendship.

You also feel like you two are the only people in the world going through the emotional rollercoaster and you feel a heightened connection to them because it’s as though they just get you.

Glogovac explains:

“The intense emotion can be a beautiful thing as well as a painful one. It can bring you closer to a person you barely know in a shared experience or in sadness and despair.”

This is especially true if you two have come together over loss. There’s something else I have to say on this topic.

I get it, it can be hard to process any loss.
